Holy School are kicking goals

HOLY Family School, Kelso has become the second Bathurst School in a matter of months to get AFL goal posts installed on its school grounds.

The posts were installed as part of a goal post subsidy scheme by AFL (NSW/ACT) – the same scheme that enabled posts to be installed at Raglan Public School late last year.

Holy Family School teacher Joe Pucci was delighted to receive the new posts.

“It just gives the kids an opportunity to be involved in another sport.”

“They’ll be using them for training, but the teachers will also be using them for their individual lessons throughout the week.”

“Once again, it’s just another opportunity the kids can do in class time.”

With the Paul Kelly Cup Regional Final less than a fortnight away, the school’s AFL teams will no doubt get in plenty of goal kicking practice.

Both Holy Family boys and girls teams are expected to field strong sides at this year’s Regional Final that will be played on Monday, May 31 at George Park.

The school first competed in the Paul Kelly Cup in 2007. Since then AFL has continued to grow in popularity amongst the students.

“In our first year we introduced the kids to the Paul Kelly Cup and had eighteen children,” explained Pucci.

“This year, we had ninety-eight to choose from.”
