Sheedy launches Team GWS schools program

On Monday May 17, Team GWS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy officially launched the exciting Team GWS Schools program.

Sheedy made a special visit to the students and teachers of Dundas Primary School to present Principal Jan Thurgar with the very first Team GWS School Pack.

More than 180 schools from GWS, ACT/South Coast and Southern NSW have elected to be involved in the Team GWS schools program, which will provide AFL-based sports resources, reading and educational resources, as well as exciting activities and competitions which will help shape the new club.

A further 300 local GWS schools will also be involved in the ‘Name the Team’ schools competition.

In the coming weeks the participating schools will receive a Team GWS Schools pack with footballs, coaching tools for teachers, educational books for school libraries and an opportunity to win an Apple Mac Computer suite by entering  the ‘name the team’ competition.

After delivering the pack Sheedy spent some time running through some drills with the excited students.

“It’s great to see so much enthusiasm. These kids were having a ball today and that’s what it is all about,” said Sheedy.

“I’m thrilled that we are giving these resources to our local schools, and more importantly that these students will be helping me with some big ideas for naming this team.”

Name the Team is still open to the public to send in their suggestions. Don’t forget to register yours at www.nametheteam.com.au.
