Team Swans Schools induction day

An enthusiast group of teachers came to the SCG on Saturday, April 10 for the Team Swans schools induction day.

The program is a new initiative which involves the Sydney Swans forming ongoing partnerships with schools in NSW to deliver messages about leadership and making healthy choices in life.

For the past eight years, Team Swans has been sending players into schools to deliver the Healthy Choices program, but the new scheme is designed to ensure schools receive improved benefits.

The day presented the Swans and AFL (NSW/ACT) with the chance to talk directly to teachers to speak about the exciting opportunities the Team Swans schools program offers.

Cameron French, AFL (NSW/ACT) Marketing and Media Manager, greeted all guests to the day before talking about the long partnership between the AFL (NSW/ACT) and the Swans.

Craig Holden from the Swans talked about the positive influence the program has on the players. One example Craig talked about was how a few years ago Jarrad McVeigh asked to stop doing his community work so he could focus on his football. The club told him no as the program is beneficial to his development. Jarrad went on to win the club’s best and fairest award the following year.

While Swans’ young gun Craig Bird talked about growing up in Nelson Bay and how being a part of the Team Swans schools program has helped develop his interpersonal skills.

At the conclusion of the day, all teachers were given the chance to meet before heading over to the watch the Swans take on Richmond.
